Hello Suzi
I have been container growing figs for years- currently have 14 varieties.
The size the tree will grow is regulated by how large your container is. I
start my cuttings in a 2 litre ice cream container, then uppot fairly fast.
Once figs start rooting they usually grow like a house on fire.
>From Aug to Oct we have figs many days (our pots are small), Come late Oct
the figs act like deciduous trees and loose their leaves, in late Oct they
go in the back of our poor light/garage which stays about 50'F all winter.
Give them a modest amount of water each week or so so they do not desiccate.
They start to throw green about the first of March, and many produce brebas.
Because the unsuitable environment none of the brebas have ripened so far.
Come mid spring we place pots of trolleys we bought, put outside on nice
days and wheel 'em in at night 'til about June 01. Remember, this is Canada,
not the banana belt of Missouri
Cheers Bert
