Interesting thought. From what I have been told:

A primary food of wild tukeys was wild chestnut - a low tannin food. When
the chestnuts were decimated by the blight, turkeys changed their diet to
chokecherries and acorns. So it makes sense that they would prefer lower
tannin acorns.
