- Subject: [NAFEX] gathering scionwood
- Date: Thu, 17 Oct 2002 15:26:24 +0000
I'm out this week doing final prep for winter of my couple hundred young trees, mostly apple , some pear. This is my first year to be able to gather scionwood, to use here - and for exchange. We have an inch of snow and the coolest temp so far was 12F. However, most of the trees still have their leaves and some look downright untouched.
How does one know when a tree is dormant enough to take scionwood? When the leaves start to change color / or can be easily stripped off? or when a certain degree of frost has been reached? or? thanks, Del
