A few years ago while on vacation in Michigan's Upper Penninsula I met a
farmer who was growing sweet cherries there. He said the variety was
"Russian". I asked if there was another name and he said "No, just Russsian".
Its possible he gets some
lake effect. He was in a zone 4. It was a large dark cherry with a good
sized pit. Possibly growing seedlings from the hardiest selections you might
get lucky.
