Hi Bert:

I rooted a few cuttings that were stuck at a very shallow angle. They
rooted well. It was not a controlled experiment.

I think there is a trade-off. The closer the basal end is to the
surface, the sooner it warms up and more vigorous the rooting. The
downside is the top layers of soil dry more quickly. Plastic mulch
probably helps both aspects.

Those rascals *were* easy to dig.
