- Subject: [nafex] Amelanchier on apple?
- Date: Wed, 07 Nov 2001 09:50:30 -0600
Del Stubbs' recent post on his experimental orchard raised a question in my
mind.
If some apple varieties will do OK on Amelanchier rootstocks, how about
going the other way - Amelanchier on apple?
While my A.alnifolias sucker profusely, my A.obovata "Jennybelle" doesn't
(or hasn't yet). Currently, it looks as though it's going to be more of a
small-tree type than a suckering bush. Does anyone (Lon?) have a clue as
to how well Amelanchier might work, grafted onto apple - either seedling or
clonal rootstock? Or, would I be better off trying to air-layer or root
cuttings?
