Del,

Last fall my Fall Red raspberries kept ripening fruit up through
Thanksgiving, well after the first frost, and after most of the summer
crops had died off. I doubt it got above 50 during the end of the
season, although I didn't keep records. It was a dry summer, and I
actually found water was more important than heat (or even sunlight) in
ripening them. (My boss's raspberries had knocked off well before that,
so this may vary by cultivar.)

When I got the raspberries, the man who sold them to me dug up the
crowns and cut off most of the stems, which were covered with unripe
berries. I took both ends home, and stuck the stems in a vase just for
kicks. To my surprise, berries continued to ripen for a few days. They
didn't get bigger, but they turned red and soft and sweet.
They were actually pretty good! So if it's looking too late and you
have large green berries, it might be worth taking them inside.
