Tom,
We have not had the driest of summers--slightly above average--but we did
have a month (July) with no rain. I started seeing the sugar maples
coloring on July 16. One tree up the block is 25 percent yellow and orange
today. And, some of the other maples are coloring, as are a few oaks. I
have a clump of river birch in my yard, and they are dropping yellow leaves,
but not more than is usual. They colored and dropped in Aug. and early
Sept. last year, too. I'm thinking we will have an early fall and first
snow. Today feels like fall--68F and cloudy.
