Dear NAFEXers, A type of jujuba grows wild in the
mid-hill regions of Himachal Pradesh upto an elevation of 1400 metres ASL.
It has a small spreading tree 5-8 metres high yieding 9-10 kg fruits. The
fruits are oblong, 1.3 cm in diameter. Though their sugar content is
around 9 per cent but still they taste sour due to high acid content.
Though the fruitsa are eaten, yet thse are much inferior to the cultivated
types. The ripen in December.
This fruit has
been described in detail on pages 97-100 of my book WILD FRUITS OF THE
SUB-HIMALAYAN REGION.
The fruit does not
have any promise as a cultivated fruit, but still some collector may have 1-2
plants in his orchard just for collection.
I can arrange the
seed but now it will only be in December.
If someone
is interested, he may write me in NOVEMBER.
