A few days ago, CBC Radio News and the St. Catharines Standard
newspaper for Saturday 24 June announced that two nectarine trees in
an orchard near Niagara-on-the-Lake in the Niagara Peninsula had been
found to be infected with the plum pox virus. The trees had been
imported from Pennsylvania in 1997.
The discovery occurred as a result of a program to check trees of
Prunus species imported from Pennsylvania in recent years. The
infected trees will be destroyed.
