The Global Disease Detection Branch (GDD), Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP), Center for Global Health (CGH) is seeking a Veterinary Medical Officer for the Global Disease Detection (GDD) Regional Center in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Position: Veterinary Medical Officer, GS-0701-14 or comparable USPHS Commissioned Corps Officer grade level.
Duty Location: Dhaka, Bangladesh
GDD is CDC’s principal and most comprehensive program for developing and strengthening global capacity to rapidly detect, accurately identify, and promptly contain emerging infectious disease threats that occur internationally. A central focus of GDD is the establishment and expansion of GDD Regional Centers. CDC operates GDD Regional Centers in Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Republic of Georgia, Guatemala, India, Kazakhstan, Kenya, South Africa, and Thailand. The primary mission of the GDD Regional Centers is to enhance the capacity of partner countries to detect and respond to infectious disease threats. Regional Centers collectively build the global capacity to combat today’s complex emerging infectious disease threats by leveraging and connecting assets.
This position serves as Veterinary Medical Officer for GDD in Bangladesh. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing infectious disease activities at the human/animal interface throughout Bangladesh, and serve as a key member of the leadership team for the GDD Program.
Duties include:
1. Working collaboratively to initiate, conduct, and coordinate complex surveillance and research activities, focusing on epidemiologic, laboratory, and outbreak response activities related to infections are the human/animal interface.
2. Providing expert epidemiologic advice and consultation as a national and internationally recognized expert in infections are the human/animal interface.
3. Providing leadership, direction, and technical expertise to universities, medical institutions, non‑governmental organizations, the host country ministry of health, and other participating agencies.
4. Developing protocols, analyzing study data through statistical methods, and disseminating study results through scientific journals, periodic reports, and public presentations.
5. Designing and conducting additional special epidemiologic studies as warranted.
