Una
Would you please expand on your experiences of seaching with mounted resources at night? That has been a topic recently between several of our units and we would like to know more about what your experiences have been.
Thanks,
Emily Boote

Subject: [MSAR] Mounted search on White Sands National Monument

Earlier this month NM SAR was activated to search for an autistic teen
on White Sands National Monument. The search was started soon after the
teen was missed mid afternoon, and continued throughout the night. 100
SAR responders were involved, including mounted resources. The teen is
estimated to have traveled approximately 35 miles.

Here is a local newspaper article about one team: http://htl.li/8Iulh

It is easy to become disoriented among the sand dunes. Monument rangers
handle many SAR missions without needing to call NM SAR for additional
resources.
