I have joined the group, and what I know of SAR around the country there are several areas at least within the US, where there is no choice to rely on anything other then volunteers.  In Montana, volunteer fire departments as well as SARs comprise 90% of the emergency service in the state, and are the only option in rural areas

Hi troops

Over here MP searches are conducted by the Police [lead authority] and the State Emergency Service volunteers.SES personnel must have completed the training package ‘search as a member of a land search team’ before they can participate in a search. The mounted section have to my knowledge [15 yrs] never taken ‘civilians’ on as team members.

Obviously to me the reason being we train as a team ,we work as a team, we know each other ,we know each other’s horses, our horses are used to working with each other etc.

I believe SES foot teams will on occasion accept assistance from people, usually people with invaluable local knowledge.

I suggest we all ignore any further posts from Mr Sweet.

No, I meant flame. You make many assumptions. TOO many for someone who would like us to believe runs a corporation. You have no idea what the rest of us do as professionals. However let me ask you this- if indeed you do manage a business what would you say if I walked into your business, with either little or no training, and told you I was going to run your business for a day and at the end of the day if I did a good job you would be alive but if I did a bad job you would be dead? Would you let me run your business? You are asking to do the same thing here and asking us not to comment on it.

Mostly I just wish you would stop putting words and ideas into my mouth that I didnt' say. You are lumping us all into one group. Very poor judgment on your part.

As to democrat or not- if it matters to you the political party of the folks you associate with you are on the wrong list. WE are about saving lives no matter their political party, ability to communicate professionally on a list, gender, creed, color, or any other descriptor some folks use to segregate one human being from another.
