It just goes to show you some peoples lack of intelligence. Obviously Irv......you have no clue. Someone with you're lack of compassion, i am truly surprised that you are involved in sar.

I have to agree with Una on this-horse welfare beyond mission readiness
doesn't belong here on the MSAR list.
We are faced today with an economy that won't restart, confidence in the
future as low as it has ever been and an unwillingness to spend government
or private funds to
get it started. In the horse business, and it is a business, this has
resulted in oversupply for years, depressed prices, and no place to recoup
investment. We shut down
slaughter, which put about 100 000 unwanted horses into French stomachs, we
shut down the {MU operations which brought forth a flood of sport horses.
If you can make a commitment for 20 years to care for and support a horse,
buy one, don't go to a rescue and adopt one, buy it outright, accept the
responsibility of ownership. Horse rescues and dog rescues should be
outlawed as charities. They are nothing more than rental agencies for
animals. They have to make a profit on each transaction to sustain their
administrators, real estate, and paid care staff. There are plenty of "used
horse dealers" out there without dealing with a "rescue".

My apologies Irv for the personal derogatory remarks.
I have walked extensive miles in a rescuer's shoes, and am obviously very
passionate about the sacrifices some people make so that others have a
chance at a better life. I should have stuck w/the facts and not my
personal opinions about your comments.
Lucky for some, my passion for SAR is almost as strong.

This thread does not belong on this list.
HOWEVER, since you bring it up - I've been involved with Doberman rescue for
over 15 years, have personally fostered over 150 dogs, 70 as an independent
rescuer, assisted in the direct rescue/rehabilitation/rehoming of over 1,000
dogs. I have NEVER made a profit on a single dog, and retired due to the
idiotic statements I hear from ignorant people such as Irv's below.
Obviously you have never cared enough to rescue an animal in need. I have
put thousands of dollars into animals that shouldn't be in the position of
needing rescuing in the first place. The animal doesn't ASK to be put into
a position where it needs to be rescued, but it NEEDS people who care
enough to put their own money and energy to help them get into a better
situation. Every REPUTABLE (there's always a few bad apples in every
bushel) horse and small animal rescue I know of is a 501c3 organization
comprised SOLELY of volunteers, utilizing in home foster care and donated
farm space (i.e., NO owned facilities), dependent on donations to cover
basic medical needs of the animals that come into their care. Rescuers
truly care about the animals that they invest their heart, money and efforts
into and won't sell you an animal just to make a buck - like "dealers" do.
Never met a reputable horse "dealer" yet.
Sorry folks, but statements such as Irv's really chafe my behind. He
doesn't have a clue about animal rescue. I'm done. Back to SAR topics.
