To cross some of the barriers to communication, increasingly I have
resorted to calling the county sheriff's office, and (now that so
many exist) the county EMA office. Even if I have no information
that an MSAR unit exists in the county, by asking I may discover
one does exist. I can also ask about adjacent counties. In a few
cases the answer has been "no, none here, but someone else asked
me the same question", followed by a new contact to a prospective
MSAR volunteer.
So, those of you wanting to make contacts, please consider picking
up the phone and calling around. And when you make a new contact,
please share the existence of these MSAR units with the rest of us.
I am in the process of massively expanding the Florida section of
our units web directory, so please send me leads. Here are a few
the new leads I already have:
Clay County has both a CERT mounted SAR team and a sheriff's
posse
Lake County has a mounted posse administered by the sheriff's
office, which also has a LE mounted patrol
Marion County ditto
Sarasota County has a mounted posse administered by the sheriff's
office
Orange County has a mounted SAR team (I knew that), a sheriff's
mounted posse, and a municipal civilian posse
