Mounted Search & Rescue Team Training Announcement

 

A Mounted Search & Rescue (MSAR) team is being organized and trained for primary service in the Cook County area, and may also be deployed anywhere in the state upon request of the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The MSAR team will serve in the Emergency Services division of the Village of Melrose Park's Department of Public Safety, which conducts search & rescue (SAR) operations as well as train first responders in (SAR) operations. The head of the Department of Public Safety is Chief Philip C. Schwartz. The MSAR team leader is Lieutenant Ronald T. Vasser and Sergeant David Cooper is the MSAR team logistics and communications specialist. You can visit our website at www.mpps.us  .

 

It is essential that ALL MSAR team members be trained to the best of their ability to conduct search & rescue operations in a safe and effective manner and to also be trained in basic first aid and basic life support procedures.

The Melrose Park Department of Public Safety will conduct the:

 Basic Life Support For Healthcare Providers Course

 

    Saturday March 28, 2009    (8AM to 5PM)

Location:   Station 23, the Gerard C. Cossident Public Safety Building

2309 Main Street Melrose Park, IL 60160

 The course is being provided at no cost.  


Course Description: The BLS Healthcare Provider Course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages (including doing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device, and oxygen); use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO). It's intended for participants who provide health care to patients in a wide variety of settings, including in-hospital and out-of-hospital. For certified or noncertified, licensed or non licensed healthcare professionals.

Intended Audience: Healthcare providers, such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, physician's assistants, residents or fellows, or medical or nursing students in training, aides, medical or nursing assistants, police officers, first responders and other allied health personnel.

Previously certified personnel:  If you have already taken this course and are certified, you are still required to take our course, in20order for you to get familiarized with our department’s protocols and equipment.

Registration is required prior to the course.

 

 

The Instructors: Captain Gerald Watson will be the lead course instructor. He is the medical training officer and a field training officer in the Melrose Park Department of Public Safety/Emergency Services. Captain Watson has a wide range of expertise in the field of public safety and he has served for over 40 years as a first responder. Some of his professional experiences are the following: Certified EMT, ambulance qualified, CPR & AED instructor, 911 dispatcher, EMA department director (Palos Hills IL.), E.S.D.A medical director (Burbank IL.) And Commander (Lt. Colonel) of a Civil Air Patrol unit for over 12 years. The record of Captain Watson’s assignments and accomplishments goes on and on. Chief Philip C. Schwartz and team of veteran instructors will also assist in the classes.

 4:30 PM to 5:00 PM ………  Debriefing and awarding of the course completion card

What to wear:  Causal and comfortable clothing
