Colorado does not have a state-wide SAR system and I gather each unit
(organization) sets its own standards for its members.
Some Colorado SAR units are members of Mountain Rescue Association,
Rocky Mountain Region, which evaluates its member units, not individual
SAR responders. Some New Mexico SAR units are MRA members. As per
its name, MRA does tend to focus more on rescue, especially high angle
technical rescue (think ropes, litters on ropes, patient packaging).
Colorado does have Colorado Search and Rescue Board, a not-for-profit
member organization that may be the nucleus of a state-wide SAR system.
For certification of individual SAR responders some Colorado SAR units
use the NASAR SARTECH training, and some use New Mexico's SAR Field
Certification. Those are the ones I know about; there may be others.
Several Colorado SAR units are officially recognized as New Mexico
SAR resources; those are the units that tend to come to New Mexico's
SAR conference (ESCAPE, organized by NMESC) during which some of their
individual members go through the New Mexico Field Certification exam.
