Screw anchors hold well because they have lots of surface area for friction
as opposed to a straight picket. The key is getting it in so that it won't
unscrew as the animal turns. Some have a swivel head that helps in this
regard.
We do not mingle most horses when out overnight. Some are used to high
lines, some are used to small corrals. We avoid tying to a trailer or using
a trailer as a stall unless the unit is open and there is some area outside.
Even a stock trailer may not be big enough inside to become a stall, and the
trailer rocks and shakes on its springs anyway (some have jacks to stabilize
them for living quarters but not always effective).
Many of us carry an electric fence kit to build an enclosure. The horses
can see each other, talk to each other, but can't start a fight over who's
dominant.
