Troxel has several helmets MORE western in style. They have a canvas and suede one and a leather covered one. The Dakota is also nice- looks more like a mounted patrol helmet and comes in bone and blue with leather trim. Our area has required helmets on kids who are competing for many years now. Everyone adjusted fairly well to the requirement. It's funny but kids will mimic what the adults do. So if the adults project the attitude "Wow! Great! It's about time!" the kids will probably ease into it without so much fuss.
