When did the National Ban take affect? I was under the impression that H.R. 503 and S.311 had not yet passed and were back in congressional committees. I am not sure, but I thought the cavel processing houses in Canada were now working overtime, to make up for the closing of the two Texas facilitates.
per LOC, Thomas Editor:
H.R. 503, The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act was reintroduced in the U.S. House by Congresswoman Janice Schakowsky (D-IL), Congressman Ed Whitfield (R-KY), Congressman Nick Rahall (D-WV) and Congressman John Spratt, Jr. (D-SC). In the Senate. S. 311 was reintroduced by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Senator and veterinarian John Ensign (R-NV). On September 7, 2006, the House of Representatives voted 263 to 146 in favor of H.R. 503, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act, to end the slaughter of horses for human consumption. The U.S. failed to act before the end of the 109th Congress.

A short while back there was some discusion about this on this site. Perhaps it will help others deal with UNWANTED HORSES and since now there is a ban on slaughter.
