Having worked many months in the northern Rockies, I would say
that Bob's herd evacuation plan is simple and sensible, and not
what many of you may suppose. It appears basically as follows:
Round up the horses and drive them in bunches onto stock trailers,
using standard livestock corrals and loading chute ramps already
in place on his ranch. Haul them en mass to another ranch (ideally
someone's winter ranch out east on the plains, currently "resting")
and release them all en masse into a pasture there. In that part
of the world, a pasture may be several square miles or larger.
No herding or handling rank horses, mucking, feeding, or watering
per se is involved.
