I have done it several times for foot searchers using coffee cans as uniform
clues in the Pennsylvania woods. They are always amazed by how accurate the
percentage found prediction is on each pass.
Doing it on horseback I would think we might want to use something bigger
than a 3 pound coffee can or maybe a brand with higher visibility. We always
used a can that was black over dull yellow and put them yellow side down and
therefore harder to see against the trees.
