The volunteer program at the Houston airport has been mentioned
here before. And in other news media (most pro but some con).

But what is really interesting is the addition of a ground-based
radar system (the new security system mentioned in passing in the
Washington Post article). The Airport Rangers will provide many
live targets for the radar system to track during its training
phase.
