I replied privately to Jim Matlock re local sources of
helmets in New Mexico. He also asked for leads to online
sources; for those, and for more discussion about the
whole issue of helmets, I recommend reading the archive
of this list, and also rec.equestrian.

To search the archive of MSAR-Riders, go to one of the
web search engines, and do an advanced search. Here is
an example, for Google.
1. Go to the Google Advanced Search page,
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en (substitute for "en" a code for
your language of
choice; see http://www.google.com/help/customize.html#searchlang).
2. In the field "Find results with *all* of the words"
enter "helmet msar".
3. In the field "Domain" enter "ibiblio.org".
4. Press enter or click on the button "Google Search".
The results include several long threads from 2003 and
2004.

To search the archive for rec.equestrian (a Usenet
newsgroup), do a Usenet search.
1. Go to the Google Advanced Groups Search page,
http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en .
2. In the field "Find messages with all of the words"
enter "helmet".
3. In the field "Newsgroup" enter "rec.equestrian".
4. Press enter or click on the button "Google Search".
The results include 4,820 articles posted over more
than a decade, in hundreds of threads.

Stay safe,
