great thoughts, and as usual, i really enjoy hearing from someone like you who has so much experience in MSAR.
yes, the requirements need to be pretty generic as you mentioned to start.  like you said, not only the people but the horses have different training and experience.  i would not expect even a great horse from florida to keep up with high country arabians mentally or physically in the high country.  and animals, like humans, have to adapt to altitude, so our horses that often go up to 10,000 or 11,000 ft and encounter moose and bear may very well have trouble physically in very wet, humid lowlands and be very unnerved by the diverse wildlife there, as even the well seasoned lowland horses may get spooked at a moose encounter.  we can train for where we live but when we travel we can count on continuing to train!   enjoy the discussion.  susan, ems new mexico.
