The horse in the herd is very capable of "tracking" another horse by scent.
Using that as a foundation, the horse is trained to track a human scent on
command. Similar to the Search Dog, you'd use a scent article of the missing
person. There are various MSAR teams in the USA who have already received
this training by bringing Terry Nowaki in to put on a clinic. Word is
spreading, and over time I anticipate this kind of training will spread
internationally. Teaching the MSAR horse to track on command is a functional
skill set that I consider a big advantage for the mounted searcher.
