I'd like to toot my own horn just a little if I may. I just
wrote and self-published a book called The Chicken Coop Manual.
It features 20 different chicken coop designs, and the various criteria
which a flock owner needs to consider as part of selecting a coop for their
particular needs. The book just went to Amazon.com in both Kindle and
print format, and I've also got a PDF format which is for sale from our farm
website. I'd very much like some honest feedback on the scope,
layout, and overall "usefullness" of the book. It's intended for new flock
owners so it's a little off the beaten path for this email list, which is why I
haven't mentioned it previously. But there are enough experienced flock
owners here that perhaps a few folks can review it for me and give me some
constructive criticism? If you're interested, just zap me a note off-list
and let me know which file format works best for you, and we'll go from
there. Or you can go to Amazon.com directly and just search on that book
title. Bright sunshine yellow cover.

I've recently picked up a few books that i think are worth a mention.
"The
Organic Grain Grower" by Jack Lazor: This book is sure to become the primary
text on organic grains. Unlike the only other two grain books that I think that
could be compared to this one (by Logsdon and Pitzer), this book is meant for
the professional. Although he isn't a small-scale grain grower, this book is
just as useful to the small farmer. This book addresses any aspect of growing
organic grains that one could imagine.
"The
Market Gardener" by Jean-Martin Fortier: A well organized and well written book for beginner to intermediate
bio-intensive farmers. This book is an abridged, updated "New Organic Grower",
except that it is more focused on the business side of it.
"The Intelligent Gardener" by Steve
Solomon: This is primarily about building well-balanced, mineralized soils to
grow nutrient dense foods. Solomon calls this his most important book and has
revised many of his ideas on soils. Before reading this book I was not entirely
sure about best practices when it comes to soils. Not only does it now seem
clear to me, it seems embarrassingly obvious.
Do
others have recommendations?
