We had one of Oklahoma's infamous hail storms go through our farm Monday night. We lost 600 hundred heads of lettuce, all the Swiss chard, and the hail knocked most of the not quite ripe cherry tomatoes to the ground. We were lucky. Other farmers in our area were hit much worse than us. My husband always says this is why we don't go to the casinos. Farming is all the gambling we need. I hope late blight passes you by and you have a successful season!
Accuweather for June – two mostly sunny, one partly sunny, two partly cloudy, four cloudy, the rest showers and rain. Not good with late blight in the region (and confirmed downy mildew on our fall seeded onions). No way I can keep copper on my ¾ acre of potatoes, especially after they fill in. Sweet potato slips arrived yesterday. A week of highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Maybe I’ll put 1000+ slips in plug trays and start them in the hoophouse (like I have time for that).
On the plus (but kind of scary side), my CSA went from 76 last year to 90 this year. And the dry spring was wonderful for field work.
