We also grew ginger this year, along with some farming friends a few towns away. We have it just for our CSA but our friend's farm sells his at market for $20/lb. He sells it with the tops still left on. It is a show stopper at market.
We got the idea from a farm in mass that got a sare grant to grow it. http://www.oldfriendsfarm.com/
We ordered through these people - http://www.hawaiianorganicginger.com/
We will definitely be doing more in the future as well.

Well, that was a difficult decision. We asked a friend who manages a natural food co-op in Lexington, KY, about pricing, and they sell organic ginger – mature of course – from
Peru for $5.99 per pound. So, we decided to price ours at $4.50 per HALF pound, which sounds like a lot less than $9.00 per pound. I would imagine in a larger “city” market, one could get a lot more. But, at $9.00 per pound, it should still turn a tidy profit.
And, I have to admit, we just liked growing something that cool! Not to mention it freezes well, so we can use it all winter – ginger beer, ginger ale, pickled ginger, candied ginger, ginger syrup, ginger cake, ginger in our tea….

We have put a few pictures up on our website, and plan to add additional pictures showing the growing process later. It has been a joy to grow, and was a lot of fun to sell at the market on Saturday. Customers really did a double-take at locally grown ginger in South Central Kentucky! When you have time, take a look:
Sounds really cool Alison, what did you sell it for at the market?
