Yes, the Dutch White Clover stands up very well to traffic, although we had a harder time getting it established last summer due to the dry weather.
As for a mower spitting grass onto plants, with our salvaged push mower, we stuck the bagger attachment on there, but cut the bottom out of the bag. The clippings shot into the bag and dropped down gently right into the path, it worked great. With our newer walk behind string trimmer we built some extra shields on there, it hasn't been a big problem.
