There are two seed plates for carrots available for the Earthway,
light spacing and regular. I actually prefer the thicker spacing and
sometimes make two passes in the same row to get the denser spacing.
Just plant them deep enough so that they don't dry out, but not too
deep. ;-)

We've not had any experience with any of them. From these
last two letters, I assume it doesn't do too well with carrot
seeds. Is that correct? I am really not wanting to thin
carrots. We have a small CSA and plant about 30 rows of
carrots, not fields, but too much to waste time thinning,
also. What has your experience been with the Earthway seeder?
Thanks.

The main carrot crop was Scarlet Nantes. I also did a bed
of Milan and Danvers.
but just as important as the roller is the sprocket
selection for proper spacing. I'd have to go through my
notes to find which sprockets I used for carrots.

Aaron, which Jang rollers do you use for which type
of carrot?

Like any good tool, it takes a bit of time
to learn how to use it efficiently but is
worth the effort.
I didn't thin
carrots this year. That is the best
endorsement I could give for the Jang
seeder.
I also have
experience with the Earthway seeder. The
Jang is superior, as you may expect, except
when it comes to certain irregular seeds
such as parsnip and certain beet seeds.
Because of the odd shapes of these seeds
they don't work well with a "precise
seeder".
Also, you should
expect to purchase a handful of seed rollers
as these do not usually come with the
seeder. That can add an extra $100-200.

Push Seeders
Hello All,
I currently am
using an Earthway seeder, but am
planning on trying out a new "brand" for
the upcoming season. The ones I have
been looking at are the European Push
Seeder and the Jang Clean Seeder, both
from Johnnys. I'm wondering what
experience you all have had using one or
the other or both? I have cohorts that
really like the European Push seeder,
but although more expensive, the Jang
seems to be a more precise seeder (if
one takes the time to do it).
Thanks in
advance,
Ben
