Thanks Farmer Justin for finding the error. Of course 300X12X12 = 43,200 si (not 4,320, missed a zero), which as you pointed out is 187 gallons. At 40GPH, that would take a little over 4.5 hours to water to get one inch. Hmmm…now I need to go back and check the calculations I did when we first put in our drip tape and set up the watering times, because we don't water anywhere _near_ 4.5 hours each week per 300' bed, and our crops do just fine. In fact, we water twice a week for less than an hour, and sometimes the beds are still a bit too wet to get around in hours later. We've been doing that for years, and the crops do fine with it, rain or not, plastic mulch or not. Anyway, thanks for finding the error. Looks like I've got another farm puzzle to solve.
