Anybody know of a formula for making a gooey goop to put on homemade yellow
sticky cards? I had one once but lost it. The sticky cards are easy to make with
yellow poster board from an office supply store, or yellow paper plates from a
party store, and lots cheaper than the ones made commercially.

On
cucumbers, we found last year that a yellow sticky trap with a cucumber
lure inside gave us almost perfect cucumbers. We could tell
a difference in just 2 or 3 days after hanging the traps. We used
them for our early cucumbers in the high tunnels, and took them to
our outdoor crop when the high tunnel crop was finished. Paul used
wire hoops over the bed outside to hang them from, about 3 in a 30 foot
long bed. The effectiveness was excellent. We got ours from
Johnny's seeds, although they may be available elsewhere. The lure
made the difference in effectiveness over just a sticky trap.

Dorene: Thank you for this info- solutions are always energizing
for me (even looking out at 10inches of snow in Northern KY).
Did
they happen to mention US sources of Protechnet or Enviromesh. All I found
via google was a Quebec source (which incidently had a tractor powered row
cover remover from Sweden that was really cool to
see).
Thanks, Mike

Hi, Folks!
So glad to
be home for this snowstorm instead of snowbound in State College, PA last
weekend for the PASA conference.
Anyway, I did manage to get to a Penn
State entomologist's talk on cucurbit pests. He did a study and found
that flea beetles, striped cucumber beetles and squash bugs have worse
infestations in organic/sustainable systems than conventional
systems.
