Hi All,  I'm a new addition to your list, and am so relieved to have found this.  I manage a small farm in Westchester County NY, and my friend/colleague Deb Taft introduced me to your list-serve.

The owner of the parcel of land where we farm is buying a tractor this year and asked me to find out from other farmers what some advice might me.  Specifically:

We want a tractor that can work as a front end loader to spread manure, etc., can cut and till in high growing cover crops, and can prepare the soil--perhaps including a raised bed maker/attachment.  Our most important crop are baby/small lettuces, so anything to help us make raised beds would be really nice.  It takes so long to do by hand!

1.  If you were in my position, what would you get?

2.  What HP is enough, but not too much?  (there are about 25 acres of high grasses the tractor will be cutting as well as the 2 acre lettuce growing area.)

3. If you'd use discs to prep the soil, any specific disc distance best for this?

4.  Any resources you'd recommend I use to self-educate before the owner makes the purchase?

5. Other advice???

Many thanks,
Julia Carson
