Mr. Hatch, Shame on you! You could
have forwarded my email to anyone that you thought should have received it and
they would have been welcome to waste paper and resources and make as many
copies as they saw fit. It is obvious by your requirements that you are not
interested in receiving the general public’s opinion on this matter. Had
you thoughtfully read my concerns you would have understood my position on
these meetings. Thanks, Farmer

[mailto:Andrew.Hatch AT ams.usda.gov] I
am writing in response to your email message sent to the Department of
Agriculture’s Michael Durando on September 21, 2009, on the topic of the
proposed leafy greens marketing agreement. Thank you for your comment.
The hearings that are taking place around the country provide opportunity for
individuals such as yourself to participate in the process and to offer your
views “for the record.” While we at the Department of
Agriculture appreciate knowing your opinions, we request that you either attend
one of the hearings or file your comment with the Department of Agriculture
hearing clerk. If you choose to mail your comment, please direct it to
the address noted below. All we ask is that you include four copies of
your written views and that you include the docket number on each document, so
it can be properly categorized. The
address to send your packet is: Hearing
Clerk Office
of Administrative Law Judges Room
1031-S Docket
Number: AO–FV–09–0138 We
truly appreciate the interest you have in this proposed program and encourage
you to go through proper channels to have your comment accepted for
consideration. Again, thank you for writing. Sincerely, Andrew

[mailto:bcarden AT breckinridgegroup.com] To whom it may concern, I am hopeful that you and others promoting the National Leafy Greens
Marketing Agreement mean well. It is also my hope that you will consider the
negative impact that such legislation will place upon the very small farmer. It
has been heartening to see a growing movement of increased numbers of
individuals that are eeking out a modest living or at least augmenting their
income with the sale of produce. CSAs and other consumer direct sales should be
promoted and not hamstrung by burdensome paperwork and fees. By the nature of
small direct sales the consumer knows where their produce came from and the
name of the person that grew and sold it to them. This in itself encourages the
farmer to be extra careful in the growing and handling methods. If in fact
there was a problem it would be minimal and readily traceable as compared to
large corporate production facilities. I once was an Organic certified grower
and elected to discontinue certification because of the onerous reporting
requirements. When you are already working seven days a week from o-dark to o-dark
you don’t need any extra
work. I understand that the closest meeting to me will be in I would appreciate your consideration in this matter. Thanks, Farmer
