Hi everyone,
We just built our pasture chicken run, put the new layer pullets (5 wks) in there and bang, the racoons got three of them! The racoon(s) dug underneath the frame to seemingly pull them out.
Need ideas for preventing racoons from digging under the chicken run.

We have a stationary pen with an enclosed top, but 'coons or 'possums got the biggest part of our layer flock earlier this year after the wire had rusted through where we couldn't readily see it. The best I can offer is to attach 3-foot-wide hardware cloth or chicken wire to each side, with one foot stapled on the chicken run and two feet sticking out perpendicular so that it is on the ground. Don't forget to let it overlap at the corners. It'll be extra work when you move the pen, but it beats having dead chickens.
