Hi Mark,

We currently have a 36 inch straddle with our tractors on beds that are not raised and in that 36 inch space plant 1 row of tomatoes, two rows of beans or 3 rows of radishes, beets, etc.

I got some 9 inch spacers made up for our compact diesel tractor which will give a 54 inch straddle under the tractor to plant 5 or 6 rows of greens per bed, possibly triple row brassicas, 5 rows of carrots.

The 54s will be very wide--we'll have to leap across them :-)

Just curious, are you saying your actual beds are 36" wide and you're going to make them 54" wide, or are you talking about row spacing of 36" on center and going up to 54" on center?

If you're beds are actually that wide, how do you do that? Seems like you'd have to trough up a huge amount of dirt and your furrows would have to be extremely wide or extremely deep? Got any pictures?

My rows are 36" on center and the beds are about 18" wide. Some folks around here have their rows on 40" centers.

A little while back, bed width was mentioned...was there a discussion of
the pros and cons that I missed? We are going to go from 36 inch beds
to 54, but can change back if necessary.
