About a week ago, National Public Radio did a story on on the increased resistance to Bt beginning to show up in target insect populations. So now, what was an effective, benign organic control used on a small scale thirty years ago has become unusable in sustainable agriculture. I stopped using/advocating Bt in 1989 when the first studies suggesting evidence that bird populations might be affected by consuming insects that fed on Bt treated crops. There is no simple, sprayable solution to any of these problems. Shawnee, zone 5, six to nine inches of snow tonight adding to the heaps already piled up.
