Hi,

I agree that technology can be a real help with marketing, we sold out two CSA farmers this year with nothing more than two neighborhood meetings and a few free yahoo email newsgroups. If your neighborhood has an email list they will let you use for free, that's a great way to get the word out.

You might want to try to raise awareness with your own local media outlet, too.  This is not as hard as you think,  just find a sympathetic ear at your local newspaper (if they have a food editor, lifestyle, health, or any locally written human interest column, that's a great start. Think about it, it's hard to come up with a new idea to write about every week, you would actually be doing them a huge favor!)

Then send them friendly emails once a week with ideas for stories. You may be surprised what can happen... And Farmer's Markets make great human interest photos.
If a paid service is not in your budget, there are many free community networking sites now that allow you upload recipes, photographs, and send emails to a group of supporters. They do this in exchange for advertising paid customers, so it's not a bad deal all around. Here are some options.

groups.yahoo.com  - we use this one
www.googlepages.com
www.facebook.com
www.vox.com - Really cool new one for high bandwidth customers! Great for blogs, photo albums, etc...

Here, it doesn't take much at all to be better than grocery store products,
which are generally in a very sad and often wilted state.  The nearest
decent grocery store produce is an 80-mile round trip away.
