Pat, I'm in the same boat as you as far as quality produce in the loca;l stores. We are a rural area but few people garden- numerous times we have tried to set up a farmers market and even community gardens with no interest. We even have a government entitiy who helps low income rural residents with diferent home improvements ,a food shelf and they sponsor2 markets in other towns but won't in the one they reside in. I run a buying club and grow and put away everything we produce so I'm not fighting that war anymore.
