putting down 2" wide strips of diatomacious earth around all your plants will keep them off your plants. Do that together with daily slug picking (bring a small bucket of DE or wood ash with you to drop the slugs into to kill them) and searching for a destroying their eggs (clear round eggs usually under leaf litter of less than an inch of soil) will generally get them under control in a few weeks.
