Hey, I hate to be the dense one, but that's not really 7-15 gallons of WATER that your soaking the bales in. It's water and SOMETHING ELSE, SOMETHING VERY "N"ish. If this were a permaculture list, I wouldnt have to guess what we were all thinking of using for 'water.'
On this list, particularly in an organic context, I've got to ask: what are you going to use in that water to heat a 50lb bale of carbon to over 110 degrees.
This isn't a challenge.
I just got to know.
Next to that: isn't it standard folk lore that warm bales of straw (apparently) spontaneously generate populations of rats? Will the ground cover prevent that?
