Allan: I've just planted mine. I keep it under row cover to keep flea
beetles off of it. I've never thinned -- but should have, and this time I
vow to thin to 4 inches apart-- the bigger plants are far more robust and
marketable when they're not crowded.

I seed about 1 inch apart. I've saved seed from the spring planting for
one variety-- have put three varieties in with different maturation date.
Seeds of Italy has lots of choice and in his latest newsletter he gave
tips-- like thinning and harvesting as soon as the head forms, as it goes to
flower FAST.
