You don't have to collar them.
If they are transplants, just stick a toothpick or a small
stick next to the little plants when you transplant them.
It really doesn't take more than a second each.
Toothpicks are probably better as you can have easily have
enough of them - it would be time-consuming to accumulate
sufficient small sticks.
If seeds have been sown rather than transplants, I can't
help - don't know.
