Accumulating growing degree days or GGD. is what matters most, its the weather
that plants and insects feel that determines how we make out in the end. So
far
this season in my town we are up to 130 GGD as of last weekend, last year at
this time it was over 200 and two years ago it was over 400 GGD. That means
our
crops and insects were growing three times faster in 2003 than today. Dispite
what it may say on the seed package about days to maturity its the GGD
accumulation that will determine whan the crop is ripe. It take around 1500
GGD
for sweetcorn to ripen... Bob.
