I wonder if feeding birds away from fruit is good in some locations but not
advisable in other locations? We had a bird feeder in our front yard
(hanging on a tree). Deer became daily visitors to eat the sunflower seeds.
More in the fall/winter but some would come in late evenings spring/summer
too. I wouldn't want to attract deer and other eaters to my fruit/trees!
Now the yard is fenced and no birds! I now have a dog (Golden Retriever)
that will not allow birds in our trees in/near the front yard (his area).
He barks until they give up and go away. I wonder if a livestock type guard
dog would be a better solution? Our border collie chases off the big black
birds when they come in our pastures. Would a GSD be a possible solution?
The dog would have to be on patrol during the hours birds feed.
Just a thought. I have not used these methods myself although I am allowing
my dogs access to the apple trees area this year.
BTW: Our little runt redbone only chases flies. Dancing on back
legs-leaping off furniture-springing onto bookcases/desk JUST to catch a
fly. Sadly she never really does manage to catch one. And, oh the mess!
:-( !!!!!
