Thanks for the info.  I think the two won't compete much for water because they have different root depths.  Seems like I heard that somewhere.  So, how does this corn and bean planting work?  Do I just mix the two up in my planter and plant the two at the same time, or do I plant the corn first and plant the beans later, or do I plant a row of corn next to a row of beans?

Thanks

Ask for Blue Lake Pole bean or you can try the old standard Kentucky Wonder or the new cross between the two called Kentucky Blue. They will grow up cornstalks nicely though they do better on a fence where they don't compete for moisture. Many of my neighbors erect elaborate trellises from baler twine where they grow pole beans and limas. Because the plants are indeterminate they produce all summer, you don't need to stage them like with bush beans... Bob.

Last year I planted 8, acre long, rows of Blue Lake beans.  They did well, but my back didn't.  Have heard there are beans that are almost exactly like Blue Lakes, but are usually planted with corn so the beans climb the corn stalks making picking much easier.  My back and I will be very grateful to learn the name of this bean. Thanks Mark (West Texas Zone 7b)
