Actually, we are not, Wendy.
The high price of fuel in Europe is created by taxes: if you want to drive instead of use mass transit, you need to put something back into the common wealth for that luxury. Here in the states, taxation is very little of the price at the pump. Most of that dough is going into the pockets of individuals, individuals you can pretty safely bet are paying little or no taxes.
I find it interesting that no one seems to know where the price of a gallon of gas 'goes,' or is it 'comes from'?
