Just a note to you all about goldenseal. It has been over harvested in the US and is now considered (among herbalists) an endangered plant. There are alternatives to use for goldenseal until the plant population can re establish itself and this is what most professional herbalist are using. Growing and using your own is a great idea. Harvesting any wild populations is frowned upon at this time. There are several farms in the US and Canada that are actively growing goldenseal: HerbPharm and Frontier are a couple that come to mind.
Please, please do not harvest any goldenseal from established populations.
It is very disruptive to the ecosystem in which they grow and it takes years for the area to recover.
