Same here on wooly worms. They're all over the place on colors, and
literally all over the place, which some say is an indication of bad winter
ahead, above and beyond coloration.

Other signs I've noted so far:

Horses' winter coats came in a MONTH ago, with the addition of a thicker
coat of down underneath than usual.

Trees are dropping their leaves before they change color (though with all
the rain, doubt there'll be much color).

Squirrels are more adventurous (downright aggressive with 18 cats around),
stockpiling nuts. Their tails are bushier too.

Hickory nuts have a thicker shell.

Moss growth is very heavy...though the indication of that to me is just that
we had a very wet summer.

We've had a huge increase in ground-nesting hornets.

The acorns aren't dropping yet, but the trees are loaded. Much more than
last year.
